Sunday, September 23, 2007, 02:57 AM - Tinkering
Nice fall day yesterday. I was going to try and tinker on the Jeep a bit starting with seat belt replacement. AMC in their infinite wisdom graced the 80's FSJs with plastic covered seat belt buckles. The covers fall apart (it just looks bad, the core mechanism is metal). Chrysler switch to Bendix all-metal buckles after buying Jeep in 1987. I just got a color matching set to go in.

Long story short, seat belts in FSJs are affixed with giant torx head bolts. Anyone who's ever dealt with these wretched fasteners knows that when they are stuck you blow up torx bits or tear up the bolt head. I did both.
I am hoping some penetrating oil therapy (I like PB Blaster for rusty stuff but if you know of anything better let me know) will help before I totally ruin the bolt head and have to drill it out or some such.
Meanwhile I've posted some new tech articles, revamped the tech page, and made some small revisions to existing articles.
