Saturday we were able to get the entire drivetrain out of the 84 including the engine which we put on a motor stand at the end of the day. Had a lot of help from CFSJA folks, so big thanks to them all! Got the 360 out of TC on Sunday. It's tough but easier to address all the issues with the motor on a stand. I hold out hope that I will one day get my money's worth out of rebuilding this accursed powerplant.
Next: install new 94A alternator, a good P/S pump and hoses, and stab in the donor motor. P/S pumps... how I hate them. I tried installing a seal kit in the current one only to have it gush fluid after about a week. Grrrr. The reman ones are $60 and the seal kit is $12. So you can see the draw to DIY.I'm going to try out some heat barrier sleeves for the P/S and fuel hoses since they tend to get baked sitting right next to the exhaust manifold.
When all that's done it's back to the giant laundry list of stuff to do to get the rig ready for the big Moab trip. The clock ticks on...
